Janaé has experience working with complex dual diagnosis (medical and psychiatric) adults with behavioral health and/or substance use/recovery needs post discharge from psychiatric hospitals or through healthcare referrals. This included crisis and safety planning, treatment goals/case management, referrals for detox, local AA/NA supports and working with healthcare providers to ensure both mental and physical ailment needs are met. She has been a social worker in the field in various roles for marginalized communities from youth residential programs, supporting adoptions and reunifications of families; to providing trauma informed care play models to children ages 0-6 in family shelters, training volunteers to support 19 shelter programs across Western, MA. In children/adolescent residential work, she supported staff and children ages 6-18 in emotional regulation, trauma informed care, and youth development/life skills training. Janaé was also a Community Health Worker servicing Hampden and parts of Berkshire County supporting those in meeting comorbidity needs for healthcare, low-income legal/financial support as well as aid in the application process for adult/senior affordable housing. Janaé has worked with various handicapable individuals & members of the LGBTQIA+ community and considers herself an ally of both LGBTQIA+ and disability rights/access persons.

Janaé has an Associate’s degree in Psychology from Holyoke Community College, obtained a Bachelor’s in Ethnic & Gender Studies with a minor in Psychology from Westfield State University and her Master’s from Springfield College School of Social Work. Janaé has a passion for advocating for individuals without family or friend supports and advocating for racial/gender equity of BIPOC individuals as an American with both Caribbean and Central American descent. Her therapeutic approach is an amalgamation of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Solution Focused Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing (MI), as she acquires more techniques to meet the unique needs of each person/child. Janaé believes in a multifaceted approach not only to mental wellness but navigating life’s challenges in general.

Janaé holds additional experience from interning with the Committee for Public Council Services (CPCS) Youth Advocacy Division (YAD) which integrates legal aid with socioeconomic/youth development support for fair treatment in the juvenile justice system. Janaé served as a legal guardian and care giver of a loved one for 10 years who faced overt and covert racial biases in access to care for those with severe mental illness. Her passion for therapy stems from wanting to be a part of the change in therapy that truly engages all in need.
