Julio Vergne is a psychotherapist that has been working in the mental health field since 2014 in Western Massachusetts with children, adolescents and adults of all ages. With a background working in settings such as In-Home Therapy, special education, health care, crisis, substance abuse and residential settings, Julio is understanding and empathetic to people of all walks of life. Earlier life experiences such as homelessness and single parenting with custody of two young children has taught Julio how to manage acute stress, which has finely tuned his ability to help those experiencing depression, anxiety, PTSD, grief and/or substance abuse. He believes that every individual has the resiliency required to endure and persevere through life’s stressors, if the desire to do so exists.
Julio holds an MSW degree from Westfield State University (Westfield, MA) and an undergraduate degree from Emmanuel College (Boston, MA). He was born and raised in Springfield, MA and grew up in a bicultural environment with both parents migrating from Puerto Rico to Massachusetts in the early 1980’s as educators. In addition to working as a therapist, he also serves as a high school adjustment counselor in Springfield, MA during weekday school hours.
His goal for clients while in therapy is to create an environment that fosters safety and trust. An environment where a person can feel comfortable enough to remove their social masks and reveal their true self. In therapy, he uses a cognitive behavioral approach (CBT) that is culturally sensitive, relational, strength-based and solution-oriented.
