Walter is a clinical social worker who assists adults in overcoming mental health struggles including those connected with depression, anxiety, substance misuse, low self-esteem, relationship conflicts, stage of life challenges (e.g. planning for retirement), parenting issues and traumatic life experiences. He is experienced in counseling individuals and has a specialty in work with adult couples and parents. He worked for 22 years at Baystate Medical Center in Adult Behavioral Health and for 5 years at the Springfield Child Guidance Clinic. He had a private psychotherapy practice for over 15 years in Hampden county.

He taught graduate social worker students at Springfield College School of Social Work for 20 years. He has an MSW from the University of Connecticut School of Social Work and a PhD from Boston College Graduate School of Social Work. He has a certificate in post-graduate studies from Smith College School for Social Work. He has completed extensive study of both family therapy and trauma-informed interventions.

Walter’s counseling approach is grounded in the importance of human attachments and relationships. He works in both the interpersonal and cognitive realms. He believes that all human beings want to do well and have the strength, power, and resiliency to design satisfying lives for themselves.
